The forecast bad weather arrived today – in spades. There was a thin layer of snow when we woke up and it has snowed ever since. This is unusual – in the eight winters we have spent here, we have rarely seen snow (as opposed to rain), never mind it lying on the ground. I’ve been hoping to get some photos of snow on the cliff for ages, but it’s always gone by the time I get to the bottom of the cliff.
There was about 20cm of snow by 3pm and the power cut out, so we went out to walk round the cliff. It’s really weird seeing Castellfollit looking so different.
Masella has had 70cm of new snow and it’s still snowing hard. Most of the resort is closed due to avalanche risk. My dad phoned to say they had 60cm in Rupit and he is snowed in, occasionally without power. He’s going to use the snow shoes we bought him for Christmas to go to the shops tomorrow. Nicky has had trees down at the bottom of her road and looking at the Roses webcam, we saw snow lying on the beach for the first time ever. The forecast strong wind has just arrived so it seems it’s pretty wild all over north-eastern Spain.
The 7pm forecast has just predicted continued snow throughout the night.

niiice pics .. i am stuck in snowed out Figueres !!!
Blimey! How deep’s the snow?
A metre and a half at home on the French side!! Glad I’m at work. Bang goes the Targasonne track opening up soon!
Mike, you’re better off in the North Sea! We were going to go skiing tomorrow, but it’ll take ages to groom the pistes, and probably a lot will be closed anyway because of the avalanche risk.
And it’s knocked out our satellite dish! Hopefully, when it melts, it will work again. If the weight of the snow, and the increasing wind, hasn’t moved it out of line.
Why not book a holiday in the UK? Day after day of glorious weather and great flying here ….
Gloat over 🙂 – I know it’s a one off and things will soon return to normal! But I’ve never seen the jet stream so far south … incredible!
Seriously though, keep the reports and photos coming, and I hope things improve for you all soon! (But please don’t send that winter weather back up north, we’re just getting used to the lovely spring conditions! (Oops there I go, gloating again, just couldn’t resist! 😉 )
Andy
I would be very careful about gloating about the weather. Someone down south gloated about the better conditions there in November and this provoked 2 months of terrible weather.
So if you’ve jinxed it now, Andy, everyone knows who to blame!
Beautiful and sunny today, and that’s the forecast for the next 8 days, with temperatures rising back to normal. Well, that’s the forecast – we’ll see!
