After a nice lunch we headed home to pack up the van to drive to the Lakes. Hoping for some nice flying up north over the next couple of days.

Back to grey, windy and later wet weather. We had a day doing jobs, like mowing the jungle in the garden, updating web sites and finishing off the stripping in the hall way. For all those who have observed the mess I made in our house for the last month – you were all right. It was much faster with a bit of water and would have been a 10 minute job with a steamer. I’ll never hear the end of it from Geoff…

Rain, wind, the usual. It was so dark by noon that we had to turn the lights on to work and by 2pm the heating was on too. We’re discussing priority jobs in case we want to make an early escape…
On a more positive note, we published the latest LMSC newsletter today, I have my first confirmed presenter for the next Supporting Deaf People online conference in February 2010 and we’ve been playing with videos and youtube. Our first attempt at uploading a video is the amazing footage of Cris landing on Flyeo’s boat in Annecy.

Log books at the ready, guys…
Since we all enjoyed the stats game last month, I thought we’d do it all again (given that it was definitely not flyable today, not even for the hang gliding comp at Clatter)!
Well, what a crap month August was. Here are the figures for our flying:
Days when we flew: 9
Days we went XC: 5
Days a complete and utter write-off: 19
The other days were times other people did fly but we couldn’t be bothered (e.g. late evening flights, flights after prolonged rain, too ill). Also, some of the days we wrote off were, in fact, flyable, but possibly only by travelling a fair distance, or ridge soaring on small coastal sites, or flying PGs in stronger winds than we would like, etc. So it’s likely that some pilots from this area did, in fact, fly a lot more than nine days.
In comparison to August last year:
Days where we flew: 14
Days we went XC: 2
Days a complete and utter write-off: 16
And in 2007 (bearing in mind that was my first year of XC flying on a PG):
Days where we flew: 13
Days we went XC: 7
In conclusion: we’re coming back to the UK in March next year and going back to Spain in August! It’s the only way to stay sane…

The remains for hurricane Bill came our way today, so it was rainy and windy. Not much change there then. At least it made the synoptic look groovy.
The machine broke whilst they were doing my x-rays at the dentist, and I subsequently got my gums slashed with x-ray film by the harassed dentist. I was then told to come back to have my newest ailment diagnosed next week. The joys of going to the medical profession!
On a nicer note, the latest podcast with Melise is finally available from the podcast page. Enjoy.

Another miserable day. The rain, wind and general greyness made it look like a November day. We worked (not much else to do) and I edited a podcast, which I hope will be available next week.
Geoff is still feeling under the weather.

Geoff writes: illness is becoming a theme. We were still feeling really shitty. Had a combination of working (for our upcoming online conference) and LMSC stuff. All very tedious and time-consuming – especially the LMSC stuff!
