No great heights to be had, in spite of a reasonable sky – maybe a bit of wave was messing up the thermals, but I was surprised not to get higher. But a pleasant afternoon and evening, nevertheless.
Well done to Ali for making it to Black Knoll on her first soaring flight after getting her CP.
Some gliding club people wandered over for a chat. As often happens, they are amazed that we carry instruments, go XC, get high enough to throw a parachute…. but nice guys, and we’ll definitely get them to buy us a drink one night in the club.
Judith didn’t come out, still suffering from yesterday’s cold – as am I now.

Hi Geoff, The Gliding Club people are great, each time I’ve been to the clubhouse I have an enjoyable time. I think it would be a good idea to have an evening for ‘flyers’ for us to let them know about Paragliding, and them to let us know about Gliding, maybe with a 30 minute session from both clubs with slides etc. followed by open discussion.
This would have a positive effect with the PG/HG’s gaining an understanding of the Gliding Club operations and flying activities, likewise the MGC would learn something about what we get upto and why we end up doing some of the (apparently) stupid things that we do – i.e. getting blown back over their place.
I think better understanding of each others flying can only be a good thing and help improve safety.
I’m sure this has been discussed before at the LMSC comittee -might be a good time to make it happen?

PS Sorry to post this here on the blog, I can’t write to the LMSC forum during *ahem* daytime hours) transfer it if you thhink its appropriate.
OK to post here. It’s a good idea, and they mostly do underestimate the capacity and potential of PGs and HGs. As, to be fair, so do we with sailplanes; I hadn’t realised until recently just what mammoth XCs they are capable of.
