Breaking the British PG record distance with Richard Carter. The big ambition of 2011 was to break the 200km mark on a paraglider. Richard bypassed this distance on the 9th of August with a flight of 253.4km from Derbyshire to Essex. Here he describes this flight and other record breaking flights he’s done in the past. 50mins. (September 2011)

I started paragliding in 1990 and really got going in 1992 so remember Richard who was an inspiration to all. I remember going along to a Nationals round in the Dales in 94 or 95 (not to fly). The weather was rubbish on that particular day so in true style everyone retired to a pub in the middle of nowhere and the fun started. It was a sight to see Richard and other pilots being dragged through a wagon wheel in a dividing wall in the pub. (I’m sure it was him – but apologise if i’m incorrect). I met him also a few times when I was a Nationals Marshal and he is a really nice and modesy guy. I am so glad he came back to the sport and kicked everyones ass – still an Inspiration. Well done Richard.
Thanks Phil. Judith put me on to you realy nice comment.
Its been realy nice coming back to flying and meeting up with old and new frends. You will be talking about the Hill Inn above Ingelton North Yorshire re the wagon wheal. Yes Ive been through the spokes. Its a very popular caving pub and they like the challenge of tight sques after a pint or two. May be see you on the hill some time. Come and say hello
