We made a mistake today…

The forcast was passable enough, but there was lots of cloud and possible rain predicted, as well as possibly strengthening wind. By 10am it had completely clouded over and although we were going to go to the Gyrn, we decided to wait and see what would happen. James reported from Bache that it was completely overcast and the climbs were weak and that it wasn’t XC conditions.

We decided not to make the effort and did DIY instead. We should know better. If you’re not there, you can’t fly and you certainly can’t go XC. Needless to say, people went from both Bache and the Gyrn. By the time it cleared here, we raced up to Corndon, but it was off (to the SW) and windy. We sat around for a bit and I launched only to see a big wall of rain as soon as I climbed over the brow of the hill. Hmmm. The cloud was huge (we didn’t realise we were only looking at the far end of it above us) and was still building outwards, so I landed. By this time it was late, so we decided to just call it a day and go back home. For a couple of people who don’t have much else to do but fly, we sometimes get too complacent about going out, saving it for a better day – a mistake in the UK.
