Geoff writes: we were very optimistic about today, until we woke up and checked the latest forecast, which was rapidly getting worse. In the end, it was flyable all day at the Mynd, very low base, wave affected, top end winds, and no-one at all went XC, though on the plus side it was more or less flyable all day. The day had its amusing sides, with, amongst other things, a hang glider pilot choosing to land in the sail plane field – a definite no-no. And one or two other trivial events, not worth mentioning. You had to be there. Overall, though, a bit disappointing. Judith was still feeling ill, full of a cold, and didn’t fly.

Looks more pleasant that where I went. I was pretty sure that all the forecasts would be right about North Wales bringing in none thermic weather, so I went to Edge Hill near Banbury. The sky was just superb, and I was sure I’d get to defined goal in High Wycombe easily. Only problem was I never got away (gave up in fear). It was dog rough on two of the soaring flights I had (first I went straight down), despite the modellers having a good time of it. Two Paraglider northampton club pilots arrived as I was finally packing away, took one look at the edge as they had already seen me being bounced about, and went off to get their hang gliders off the car. I didn’t stay to see them fly. I was surprised that there weren’t other flyers there as the forecast indicated NW, and there isn’t another decent XC site within 50 miles.
