Geoff writes: the forecast wasn’t too bad for today. light winds, sunny most of the day before the front arrived, and we thought it would be flyable. But on arriving at Santa Brigida, it was very west. We went up anyway, assuming it would come on, as it usually does. Lluis, Ivan and Oriol were already there, waiting for it to turrn south.
Then the front seemed to arrive very early, and the sun disappeared behind lots of high cloud. But surprisingly, the wind did come on, and we prepared to fly. It never really came on properly, it stayed very west, but it was surprisingly buoyant, and we did fly for a short while – it was probably flyable for about an hour, but we flew less than that – I landed, after getting around 400′, assuming it would come more on; and Judith landed to put her contact lens back in the right way round. Landing was, as ever, a mistake, and people (Felix and others had arrived by then) were getting lower, and eventually all except Ivan bottom landed.
The advancing front had stalled, and the cloud seemed to be receeding, so Judith and I waited for the sun to reappear, which it did briefly, but never long enough to make it worth launching in the increasingly light winds. In the end, we had a beer and a chat with Felix, who had walked back up to retrieve his car. Judith told him the (true) story of the German doctor who had confused my forehead with my (non-existent) foreskin. Apparently an easy mistake to make in German.
