17 May 2009 | : Boring stuff

Forecast for today...The weather blues continues. Heavy showers and a howling gale. I realise I am a lily-livered semi-Spaniard these days, but I’m constantly cold and it’s just not right to have the heating on in May, surely?

I edited the XC flying podcast, which is available through the link at the top of the page.

16 May 2009 | : Boring stuff

Forecast for today...Michaela and Wayne came round for dinner last night and after breakfast we recorded a podcast describing and analysing our XC flight from the Malverns last Sunday. Should be available in the next 24 hours, from the podcast page.

The weather was pants as usual, so Geoff and I went on a DIY and furniture shopping spree, which was curtailed after about the fifth shop, when Geoff could take no more. Unusually, we were quite sucessful, as we managed to get 90% of the items on the shopping list.

16 May 2009 | : Boring stuff

Forecast for today...A few weeks ago they announced on the news that this year we would have a BBQ summer with hot weather and record temperatures. I hope the forecaster who predicted this is currently in hiding. It’s a disaster! Rain, cold, wind. The weather is taking a turn for the better in Catalonia and we are getting excited emails from the Parapente Girona list about how good they think the weekend is going to be. I looked at flights back to Spain this morning, but they are so expensive, I have decided to go for the cheaper option and just unsubscribe from the Parapente mailing list.

14 May 2009 | : Boring stuff

Forecast for today...Rain and mist but no wind! We played squash for the first time in about 7 months. Geoff thrashed me as usual, although by the end I did come back from 8 – 0 down to be beaten 9 – 7.

I’m shattered!

13 May 2009 | : Boring stuff

Forecast for today...A miserable cold, wet day. Perfect weather for working. Looks like the rest of the week is going to be the same, wet and/or windy. We would consider going for a holiday in Spain, but the forecast for there is equally bad, although my parents reassure me that despite the thunderstorms which are forecast, it hasn’t actually rained there in weeks.

12 May 2009 | : Archery, Miscellaneous activities

Wenlock AbbeyThis might be the last sunny day for a while, so we were determined not to spend it in front of the computers.

In the spirit of trying to discover more places around here, we went to Much Wenlock and looked at the abbey (great audio tour) and then the Guildhall. A snooze in the petal covered church yard later, we headed off to Wenlock museum, and learnt all about the modern Olympic movement. Didn’t see many sporting types round town though!

On the way home we went and did some archery. Since it was even windier than yesterday, we had our work cut out and at one point the arrows were all pointing sideways, despite us shooting them supposedly straight. Rain and more wind for the rest of the week. Wish we were still in Spain!

See photos of today.

11 May 2009 | : Archery

Geoff doing archery.Very windy again, but a lovely sunny day otherwise. In the afternoon we went to do archery. Since this year seems to be dominated by wind, we might as well practise perfecting our technique in these conditions.

Whenever my accuracy gets worse it is inevitably my release which is to blame and hey presto, as soon as I concentrated on doing it properly my shooting improved immensely. A couple of times I nearly got blown over, never mind the bow and arrows going all over the place. Still nice to be out…
