We’re back in the UK and the weather is grey and miserable. Sigh. After spending the morning with the family, we’ve come back to the Long Mynd area and are unpacking and settling back in at home. We might even go out for a pint of British beer to celebrate being back…

Geoff writes: another day of poor weather. It seems increasingly likely the weather here will get good just as we move back to the UK, where the weather will promptly get bad.

So today was a day of packing (at least it was for me – Judith went for lunch with her parents, then stocked up on alcohol for the summer). Later on, in the evening, Roger and Marc came round for a very pleasant evening with dinner.

The forecast for today was rubbish, but Dai had said to Geoff that today might not be as bad as forecast. We woke up to leaden skies and the radar showed widespread showers. The webcams at the coast showed rain too, so we stayed in bed for the morning, until we realised that it was much later than we thought… of course we’re in summer time now!

The sky started clearing from about 11am, but it was never clear if you could trust the conditions and it was windy as well. We stayed in and did some painting. The ceiling on our top floor is now nice and white. We’ve also started packing and sorting for the trip back to the UK. What I don’t get is how we can have a clear out every six months and still accumulate so much crap!

It never did rain so the forecast was completely wrong (and Dai was right). We’re hoping for a flyable day tomorrow before the bad weather returns on Tuesday.

Geoff writes: Crap weather here, though the skiing would have been OK – 70 km open, out of 72. Judith back from Ireland now, and weather improving a lot from tomorrow, so should be back to skiing and flying (though the skiing quality will depend on how warm it gets in the mountains).

Another XC day in the UK – they have had an excellent March, with over 3700km flown in about 126 XC flights to date according to the XC League, with only three of those from Mynd sites, amounting to 41km.

Geoff writes: like yesterday for wind, but a lot cloudier. There’s a building high over the UK, which usually means poor weather here, and also accounts for the easterlies. So possibly poor flying for the next few days, but we might go skiing instead, once Judith gets back from visiting Ireland.

Geoff writes: a forecast of east is probably the worst direction for our local sites. The only real option is Berga, but by the time I realised this, it was getting late and I hadn’t arranged to meet up with anyone, so I took a chance on it being less east than planned. However, the various wind machines were giving it quite strong east, or ENE, at Santa Brigida and Bellmunt, so in the end I didn’t go out, just stayed in and did a few jobs.

Geoff writes: Some rain, but a lot less than in previous days. Wet and cloudy in the ski resorts. In fact, all the higher pistes are closed anyway because of the avalanche risk. Not flyable at all. So a day of jobs, including Judith’s final LMSC newsletter.
