I was a bit sad last night when the circus rolled out of town and our friends went home and the weather today seemed quite fitting… lashings of rain and a howling gale. I decided to go for the full depression injection by looking at the BBC monthly forecast. Wish I hadn’t bothered.
The only thing inspiring to get out of bed for was to edit the podcast I recorded with Tony Spirling on paragliding and the mind last week. It’s up now on the podcast page. Fascinating stuff.

It looked like an excellent day and we were up at 6.30am. Unfortunately, not to go to the Malverns, but to Birmingham for a meeting about another online conference we are going to be running in November. This is the fourth in this series and it will be great to be working with Sarah, Ros and Lou again.
We had the meeting at the Studio, just around the corner from Birmingham New Street. What a place! Reception desks made of fish tanks; bacon sandwiches, muffins and coffee on entering the room and a lunch to die for and the whole building smelt discretely of oranges. I’m easily pleased about small things…
When we left Birmingham the sky was amazing and people did fly miles. At home it had overdeveloped and rained. In the evening we had a very productive LMSC committee meeting.

We worked, went to the skip and then our Scottish friend Paul from Seattle came to visit. Lots of drinks later we ended up in Bishop’s Castle for a night out.

Bank holiday monday, so inevitably bad weather…
It was grey and overcast when we got up but it was warm enough to sit in the garden for breakfast. On looking at the forecast it was clear it wouldn’t be much of a flying day, so Dave and I talked treehouses, conservatories and hedges. He’s taken a real liking to our hedge which is made up of several different plants and he was itching to cut it. It takes me ages, so I was happy to say yes. We all spent the day in the garden until the rain set in and Dave made his way back up north.

We drove down to Cirencester to spend the day with Geoff’s family. It made a nice change to be out of the house, and we were fed and watered in style. Still no change in the weather. Wind, heavy showers, but a lovely sunny evening to have dinner in the conservatory.

I won’t even bother mentioning the weather. I am getting bored writing about it. We had a very productive working day and then tried to get the video to record. Geoff is a techie, but even he couldn’t get our VCR to get smoochy with Michaela’s TV. Just means we have to watch Martin Knight in 1066 – The Fight for Middle Earth online at Channel 4.
In the evening we went to music night at the Bridges with Michaela, Wayne and Andrew. Always a good night, but last night there was a surprise set from The Wonderstuff. They were excellent.

This might be the last sunny day for a while, so we were determined not to spend it in front of the computers.
In the spirit of trying to discover more places around here, we went to Much Wenlock and looked at the abbey (great audio tour) and then the Guildhall. A snooze in the petal covered church yard later, we headed off to Wenlock museum, and learnt all about the modern Olympic movement. Didn’t see many sporting types round town though!
On the way home we went and did some archery. Since it was even windier than yesterday, we had our work cut out and at one point the arrows were all pointing sideways, despite us shooting them supposedly straight. Rain and more wind for the rest of the week. Wish we were still in Spain!
