Today was Michaela and Wayne’s last day and the forecast looked to be the worst of their stay. Wayne decided he wanted to go horse riding, so I arranged this with Willem. I usually go riding in Batet where you get fantastic views of the volcano of Croscat and the snow covered Pyrenees, but under this morning’s leaden skies, we were robbed of the nice views. We caught our horses in the field and then went on a tour of the volcanoes, fields and forests around Batet. Half way around the ride the sun came out and it was beautifully clear.
Meanwhile, Geoff and Michaela went around Besalu, exploring the river side, Jewish museum and baths.
We wanted to go for a last flight on the way to the airport, but the wind was north and there was nowhere we could go in the remaining time. Instead we went for a Spanish lunch… 3 courses, wine, water and bread for 12.50 euros. I won’t need to eat again for a week!
We had a lovely time with M & W and were sad to leave them at the airport.

What’s this country coming to? More rubbish forecasting. It was supposed to be light and variable, but mostly south, which is good. We have not actually flown since we left the UK, so it seemed about time we got our feet off the ground. People were off to fly El Mont, but we decided to do some work first and then head out to Santa Brigida later.
I didn’t really pay much attention to what was happening outside the window, so it came as a bit of a shock to feel the wind once we got outside. We drove as far as Olot (where it was howling) and then phoned Marc to get a report of local conditions. He confirmed that it was equally windy there. It was too late to go to the beach, so we headed for the gorge at Sadernes, for late lunch and a swim.
The front has come in now and it has completely clouded over. Tomorrow it should be raining, so lots of work in store and still no flying!

We were determined to go to the beach on our first day here, but we just couldn’t muster the enthusiasm for getting back in the car, even to drive 45 minutes to the beach or to go flying, despite it being an epic day. Instead we went swimming and lazing about in the local gorge.
The house is very dusty, not having been used much in the last six months, so we have our work cut out cleaning and unpacking for the next couple of days. Forecast for tomorrow is for rain (!), so we can get on with more mundane things in life before the hot and sunny weather returns on Friday.

Rubbish weather. I did a podcast with Mark Dann of
Beyond Extreme this morning, called ‘You’ve got your CP – What next?’. I then spent an hour editing it, only to lose all my work by not saving it. Talk about school-girl error! I had to do it all again, but it can be heard now in the podcast section.
Next few days looking a bit better. Windy tomorrow, but might be sunny (ish).

Guess what? Rain… Lots of it. More flooding and more misery. We had a lovely day though. We went to see James and Tammy and their new little munchkin. He’s really cute. It stopped raining enough for us to walk up to the top of their hill and survey the flooding around the river before the heavens opened and we had to shelter in an old railway carriage. After that it was off to Tim and Rae’s for good company, tea and biscuits, delayed by a thunderstorm cutting off their electricity. It’s that kind of summer…

Howling. We had a lazy day. I edited the newest podcast with Martin Knight on his first comp season. It’s posted up in the podcast section now.

Another miserable day. Great working weather though. I edited the podcast with Nicky, which is now available in the podcast section. She talks about competitions, tactics, characteristics of good comp pilots, etc.
Spent the rest of the day doing conference stuff…
